Before assuming the worst, it helps to know that a fan not working is almost always caused by one of a fairly small set of issues — and most of them are fixable without needing a replacement.
Start With the Basics
Before jumping to anything electrical, it's worth ruling out the obvious. Is the switch actually on? Has the MCB for that circuit tripped? Is there a general power outage in the area? These sound almost too simple to mention, but a surprising number of "fan not working" calls turn out to be one of these basic issues rather than a fault with the fan itself.
The Capacitor Is the Most Likely Culprit

Regulator Problems
Sometimes the fan itself is fine, but the regulator controlling it has failed. This can look like the fan not working at all, when in fact power just isn't reaching the motor properly because of a faulty regulator. This is usually one of the simpler fixes, since regulators are relatively inexpensive to replace.
When It's a Bigger Underlying Issue
Occasionally, a fan that suddenly stops working is a symptom of a bigger problem — a short circuit, water damage from a leak, or an overloaded circuit that's been quietly stressing the wiring for a while.
