How to Choose the Right Air Cooler for Your Room Size

Choose an air cooler by room size, airflow capacity, tank size, ventilation and practical placement.

An air cooler works best when its airflow, tank capacity and placement match the room. Buying too small can leave a large room uncomfortable; buying too large can waste space and power.

Choose the cooler type

  • Personal coolers suit compact rooms.
  • Tower coolers work where floor space is limited.
  • Desert coolers are generally better for larger, well-ventilated rooms.

Room size and airflow

Use the manufacturer's airflow rating as a guide, then account for ceiling height, windows and ventilation. Cooler performance is strongest in hot, dry conditions and falls in very humid weather.

Placement and care

Place the cooler near an opening for fresh air intake, keep its vents clear and clean pads and the tank regularly. At the beginning of the season, check the pump, motor and switch for unusual noise or poor water flow.

FAQ

Is a desert cooler always better?

Not for every room. It is larger and more powerful, but a compact room may be better served by a smaller cooler.

Why is my cooler not cooling well?

Pads, pump flow, ventilation and the fan motor can all affect performance. See cooler repair in Jodhpur for help.
